This is one of the early Western BL films. The story revolves around a love triangle between three French noblemen in Quebec. The film is set in two time periods: 1952 and 1912.

Jean, now a priest, visits a prison to hear confessions. One of the prisoners is Simon. Jean is deeply in love with Simon and had hoped Simon would join him in the monastery. However, Simon is in love with the young nobleman Vallier. This makes Jean jealous, and they play a prank by tying Simon up and forcing him to kiss Jean. When their secret is discovered, Simon is punished by his father. To avoid rumors about a play based on St. Sebastian, Simon pretends to be in love with Lydia-Ann for a while. Unable to bear it any longer, Simon goes to Vallier. They then hide in a log cabin until a fire breaks out. Jean saves Simon, but Vallier dies. Simon is imprisoned for murder.

Forty years later, he stages a play and invites Jean to watch, ostensibly to confess but in reality to accuse Jean, the priest, of being the arsonist.

The film can be confusing due to its frequent time jumps and language mixing. Canadian films often blend English and French, making some dialogue difficult to understand as it’s unclear whether they’re speaking English or French. What impressed me was the beautiful and artistic cinematography. The characters look like paintings in a museum.”
